Students earn their GED while participating in one of three training tracks: construction, phlebotomy, or customer service. Participants who complete skills train are prepared to earn certifications in their field of study.

  • Falls into one of the Following Categories: Low Income; Parenting; the Child of an Incarcerated Parent; Currently or Previously Involved with Juvenile Justice and/or CPS or Foster Care Systems; Migrant
  • Support Services: Mental Health Services, Transportation, Financial Assistance, Food, and Clothing Assistance

Eight Millions Stories

Offers pathways to opportunity through education, skills training, work preparation assistance. The program partners with local employers to provide work placements that meet the needs of youth and young adults with limited work experience.

The Houston Alumni and Youth (HAY) Center

Serves current and former foster youth and young adults. The HAY Center offers GED and credit recovery, advanced life skills training (i.e. budgeting and cooking), counseling, employment and/or education/skill training assistance, and other services deemed necessary on a case-by-case basis.

  • Support Services: Goal Planning; Transportation and Housing; Education/Training and Employment Services

AAMA Work and Learn Center

The AAMA Work and Learn Center offers a paid training program where the basics of graphic design are taught as well as the development of career readiness skills. Learn Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, develop visual communication skills, build a resume and portfolio, prepare for job interviews, meet professions in the field, and network with local businesses.

  • Education: Not currently enrolled in school and not working full-time
  • Income: No requirement
  • Residing in the service area
  • Program serves English and Spanish Speakers
  • Must have computer and internet access
  • Support Services: Child Care, Counseling and Prevention Services, College Readiness, and Internships
